Now for Some Really Good News! US Federal Judge Rules Human Genes Cannot Be Patented!

Writing as if he were a genetic biologist, on March 29, 2010, Judge Robert W. Sweet of the Southern District of New York Federal Court ruled that genes cannot be patented. What that means for opponents of GMOs is huge. Judge Sweet ruled that the patenting of genes as if they were nothing but simple molecules is bad science and bad public policy. At stake is the notion that isolated DNA can be patented and owned, the very foundation upon which GMO patents rest. The case hinges on the question of whether isolated genes are fit material for patenting and ownership.
Without the legal permission to claim ownership of genes, the entire biotechnology industry is torn to tatters. And that cannot come soon enough for us here at the Natural Solutions Foundation. GMOs are not tested for safety after a single, company-run and -reported preliminary evaluation. They are merely assumed by the corrupt and dangerous FDA to be "substantially equivalent", exposing the environment and everything in it to dangers whose magnitude may not make itself clear until decades have past. Once those decades have passed, the genetic material of every living thing on the planet could well be co-mingled and corrupted with the tampered genetic material.
At what cost? Cancer, infertility (don't forget, a pantented gene that makes men and women destroy sperm cells was bought by Monsanto and DuPont "for commercialization"), auto immune diseases, allergies, fetal deaths, damaged immune systems, lethal allergies, smaller organs with holes and other damage in them, small birth weight, the list goes on and on. Then there are the super bugs and super weeds and the super saturation of the environment with the (on average) four times greater application of chemical toxins when GMO crops are grown. And the drought failures. And the consequences we do not yet know about, but will, with the passage of time.
"No", said Judge Sweet in his historic decision, http://graphics8.nytimes.com/packages/pdf/national/20100329_patent_opinion.pdf, "simply identifying something that already exists in nature is not sufficient to patent it." Whether combining genes which already exist in nature in ways that have never occurred in nature will be insufficient to patent these chimera or hybrid organisms remains to be seen.
This decision, however, gives a real shot in the arm to those who claim that GMOs should not be permitted, genes should not be patented and GMOs should be halted in their contaminating spread by a total and immediate ban on them. FDA guidances, like other federal agency guidances, once promulgated, have the force of law. That means that the FDA, EPA, etc., have power to create de facto legislation without Congressional review. Controlled by the industries they were created to regulate, agency corruption literally has the power to kill us. And the agencies are [ab]using that power. Four years ago, in its "CAM Guidance", the FDA tried to kill all products - all of them - used for health or healing, relaxation or repair by issuing an irrational and unprecedented guidance which stated that anything, anything at all, used with the intention of making yourself or another person feel better, in its mind, turned that thing/supplement/object/herb into an untested drug or medical device. Just such a great historical struggle faces us today. It now appears that the nationalized health care law includes, in addition to 16,500 new IRS revenue officers, 6,000 new uniformed, militarized "health care" ready reserve. They will, we are told, be available to go wherever the Leader in the White House determines there to be an "emergency." Make no mistake about it; Fascist regimes, as they consolidate tyranny, establish numerous militarized institutions to replace normal activities with state-dictated impositions. It has happened before, specifically, with health care professionals who had taken the Hippocratic Oath to "Do No Harm." Instead, doctors, nurses and other health care providers in both the Nazis and Soviet regimes becames creatures of state control, rationing and otherwise manipulating health care to destroy those marked by the state as unworthy of life.
Last week, Dr. Rima's father was marked in such a way: 97 years old, but alert and hopeful, his medicines were irrationally stopped, no food or water was given to him, opiates were administered to suppress his organs. To no one's surprise but his own, he died in an induced coma.
What was a crime last week is now the law of the land, following Obama's Monday signing of the Illness Management Bill passed on Sunday.

Last week my father died at age 97. He entered the Naples Community Hospital in good spirits, fully alert and as contentious as he ever was. Within a few days he was dead. I believe that he was killed by the economics of health care. What happened to my father was, potentially, a crime. But under the new Obama Care plan, it may not be a crime now that the person occupying the White House has signed it into law. Instead, it will be a (perhaps) unspoken public policy to kill off the elderly, the expensive, the disabled, the useless eaters who are an economic drain on a society which rations health care for the productive "useless eaters" (as they call us) over old, tired, sick or disabled ones.
Like worn out disposable machines, if we cost more to repair than we are worth, then we are junked and broken up for scrap. My father was on several medications when he entered the hospital. He believed in them, I do not, but that is beside the point.

In addition to our amazingly smooth, clean-tasting, and clean, Valley of the Moon Coffee, www.ValleyoftheMoonCoffee.org, the Valley of the Moon Eco Demonstration Project is committed to producing a great many kinds of clean food and teaching farmers and non farmers alike how to produce that same kind of food, all around the world.
To make that happen, of course, we need farmers with passion and expertise who can oversee that aspect of our project. Recently we agreed with a scientist and farmer who is just such a person that he would oversee the BeyondOrganic BioDynamic farming we are starting in order to be able to bring our food to Panama and our techniques to the rest of the world. Today he came to our teaching green house (which I must admit I have sorely neglected because of all the other things going on here) and began the process of creating teaching videos for us in Spanish and English. As soon as we get them edited, we will put them up on www.FoodFreedomeJournal.org, our free instructional site.
On another note, we are beginning our food distribution at the next phase this week: we already produce and sell what I think you will agree is the best coffee on the planet, Valley of the Moon Coffee
No kidding!
We have spent quite some time sourcing sufficient amounts of absolutely clean raw milk and turning it into yogurt which is just as good. We do have to heat it slightly, of course, but its taste is nothing short of stunning. To go with it, we have begun the processing of large amounts of fruit (we got a delivery of about 400 lbs on Thursday). We are making cashew fruit conserves (if you haven't had these, you are missing something extraordinary), mango, passion fruit, pineapple, cantaloupe preserves (that's probably a new one for you, too!), all made with the fruit and a native, natural sugar made from sugar cane juice grown without any chemicals. This product, called "raspadura" is just like maple syrup with all of its minerals intact and, in fact, it is produced exactly the same way that maple syrup and maple sugar are: slow boiling in small batches stirred by hand and poured into wooden molds.
Some of the jams have some chemical free ginger and a few have a touch of the hottest pepper I have ever encountered, grown right here in our own greenhouse. How can you get them? Well, we expect to start exporting them soon - IF there is any left after Panama City and the other population centers get their hands on them!
Next come our BeyondOrganic BioDynamic cookies. They are definitely worth waiting for. Veggies will be going into the ground shortly and we are building a seed propagation greenhouse to facilitate dissemination of clean seeds for future planting here and elsewhere in Panama.

Is Your IRA Safe from US Government Confiscation? Certainly NOT!
But there is another reason for talking about the Valley of the Moon Eco Demonstration Project right now. And that is money. You see, the US Government has announced that it is accepting comments on taking your IRA and 401 retirement funds and converting them to fixed income annuities with a 3% yield "guaranteed" by the failing, flailing US Treasury. Middle-class Americans' last asset base [since the equity in our homes is gone] will be raided like the Social Security "Trust Fund" has been raided... to fund more government waste!
