Should I Take Potassium Iodide Now?

Now, Back to KI

Potassium Iodide (KI) is useful for only a few days (most experts agree that it can be safely taken for about 8 days). But the radiation from Fukushima and possibly from Onagawa as well, will, in all eventualities, pour out for months, years, decades, perhaps for longer than that. So when do you start taking the KI which you should NOT take on a long term basis?

France is telling its citizens not to drink milk or eat dairy products and not to eat broad leaved vegetables like spinach. France is thousands of miles further away from Japan than the US, Canada and Mexico. Fall out does just that: it falls out of the air so that every mile further the wind carries it, less and less is left in the air to be transported along and fall out further down wind.

Yet the government of France is not covering up, hushing up or lying to the people of that country. To me it stands to reason that if the dangers in France are great enough for warnings, the dangers in the US, Canada and Mexico are far, far greater. Unless, of course, you have an interest in cancer, still births, brain damage, digestive and bone disease and, ultimately, death of large numbers of people. In that case, you would not tell people what they can do to protect themselves. You would make sure that they thought the levels of contamination in rain water, drinking water and foods were well below dangerous levels. You would, like the EPA, actually raise the levels of "SAFE" radioactive contamination and, like the FDA, which states in its legal briefs that you have no right to safe food or the food of your own chosing, stop monitoring milk to see if it were contaminated.

You would, along with every other government agency in the US and Canada, insist that there was nothing to worry about since the levels of radiation were of no concern to humans.

Well, not to humans who do not breath, eat, drink or ever leave their lead-lined vaults. Oh. WHOOPS! Those are the dead ones. So there is no danger to DEAD humans. Children, pregnant women, babies, non pregnant women, men and everyone else has quite a lot to worry about, it would seem to me. There is no safe dose of radiation, just as there are no safe doses of lies and deceptions by self interested governments, agencies and industries.

I repeat: if France is telling its far-less-exposed people to avoid mild, dairy products and broad-leafed veggies, believe it and take those warnings to heart in the North American continent. If France is telling its people NOT to go out in the rain if possible, take the same warning to heart in the US, Canada and Mexico.

Despite the balsamic nonsense being pumped out by the professional media and government "soothers", the reality is very serious. Since KI must be taken on a short term basis only, let's think about the other things you can do to protect yourself. Let me remind you that in addition to thinking about your thyroid gland, you also need to use protective measures against radiation in general. That means increasing your glutathione levels, taking resveratrol and other factors which help quench the free radicals caused by ionizing radiation and doing everything in your power to get out of harm's way.

The situation at Fukushima has been up-graded to the worst possible nuclear disaster rating, a 7, a "complete meltdown" but note the official spin: "The crisis rating of the Fukushima Daiichi accident was raised from 5 to 7 on the seven-level International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale by the Japan Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency. The new level, the highest on the scale, designates Fukushima as a “major accident.” The new rating puts the Japanese incident on the same level as the 1986 Chernobyl accident—even though Japanese authorities estimate that radiation released at Fukushima is only 10 percent of the amount released from the Ukrainian plant." Now, let's get to the question of whether to take KI. It is a totally personal decision at this point since the officials are lying through their teeth. While the official radiation levels in Fukushima are not being released, instruments show increasing levels of radiation and the evacuation zone around the reactors has been widened because of "hotspots" well outside the exclusion zone already set up there.

There is now no question that I131, which serves as a marker, just a marker, mind you, for other products of radiation, is now being found in every place that it is looked for in the US. Official idiocy abounds to a level that takes the breath away if you are listening to what is being prattled.

The Governor of Pennsylvania, allowing as how 33,000% the background radiation level, and the allowable US government level of I131 was being found in rainwater in his state said, 'Hey! Don't Worry! Meanwhile, in San Francisco, the level of this marker compound, which is a problem on its own, but is indicative of all the other radioactive compounds coming to you from the reactors as well, are 18000% above the legal drinking water limits (Don't Worry! Still no threat to the public, of course, while Cesium 137 and Tellurium 152 are also being found in water and Virginia tells people not to drink the rainwater there.

Wait! The US Government, in the form of the EPA is there "protecting" us! Yes, they are! They are raising the levels of contamination in drinking water that can be present before an alert is sounded
“nearly 1000-fold increase for exposure to strontium-90, a 3000 to 100,000-fold hike for exposure to iodine-131; and an almost 25,000 rise for exposure to radioactive nickel-63” as reported by our colleague Mike Adams.

My answer? Right now, as an adult, I would "tank up" on very high quality, bioavailable iodine sources (no, iodized salt will simply not cut it), but NOT sea food from Japan and the Pacific Ocean (for exactly the same reasons that I no longer eat ANYTHING from the Gulf of Mexico - man-made horrific contamination which will contaminate all surviving sea life for God-Alone-Knows-How-Long). But I would keep a weather eye on the situation.

For the kids? I would be very, very close, right now, to adding KI to their daily intake. Not yet, but very, very soon.

Oh, Yes, One Other Option: GET OUT OF DODGE!

If you are in North America and Europe, you WILL be exposed to days, weeks, months, years of radiation. The nuclear reactors at Fukishima will leak radiation for years, according to Japanese experts. You will be down stream of that radiation.

Here in Panama, as it happens, we are probably in the safest spot for this particular disaster. Can I guarantee that we will be so fortunate for the next one? Of course not. But until global mixing puts the airborne residue into the total atmospheric mass of air, we are experiencing less fall out than anyone in North America and Europe.
