The US Constitution does not mention health freedom.  Our right to natural health care and our own decisions in our health path rests in other Constitutional freedoms.  Tragically, those freedoms have been eroded by the White House and by a Congress which has, all too frequently, forgotten its Oath of Office to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.  S. 185, if passed, will restore your right of Habeas Corpus and cancel the secret Military Commissions recently put in place which can try people in secret - secrecy so great, in fact, that the charges facing you - if any - and the evidence against you -if any - are secret from you.  If S. 185 and/or HR 3835 are passed, people could no longer be held indefinitely with secret charges leveled against them (or no charges at all), secret evidence (or no evidence at all), no legal representation and no right to tell anyone where they are.  HR. 3835, the American Freedom Agenda Act of 2007, introduced by Ron Paul (R-TX) goes even further and restores Habeas Corpus, cancels these secret military tribunals, forbids torture, kidnapping, rendition of people to foreign countries for torture and detention, protects journalists who are doing their jobs from charges of espionage and, in general, restores many of the basic Constitutional rights which have been ripped away from us by legislation, Signing Statements, Executive Orders and Homeland Security Directives.  These freedoms must be in place or the very concept of health freedoms becomes meaningless.  I urge you, if health freedom is important to you, to take action immediately AND make sure that you send this email Health Freedom Alert to every person on your list and urge them to do the same.  A Quick and Heart-Felt Thank You Health Freedom information follows this section but I wanted to thank the folks who are helping us keep your freedoms alive. Fact: Teen Screen has no scientific validity and is a marketing ploy to sell dangerous drugs which may cause irreversible harm to children and teen agers to a new market: healthy children. Fact: Teen Screen has never been shown to reduce suicidality in children while anti depressants and anti psychotic drugs are well documented to increase the risk of suicidal thoughts, attempts and successful suicides.  In fact, these drugs often carry "Black Box" warnings to alert consumers to the increased risk of suicidal thoughts and actions in people taking them. Here is what PsychSearch.net has to say about Teen Screen: TeenScreen is a very controversial so-called "diagnostic psychiatric service", aka suicide survey; done on children who are then referred to psychiatric treatment. The evidence suggests that the objective of the psychiatrists who designed TeenScreen is to place children so selected on psychotropic drugs. "It's just a way to put more people on prescription drugs," said Marcia Angell, a medical ethics lecturer at Harvard Medical School and author of "The Truth About Drug Companies". She said such programs will boost the sale of antidepressants even after the FDA in September ordered a "black box" label warning that the pills might spur suicidal thoughts or actions in minors. One tactic TeenScreen officials use is to sell the child on the suicide survey first and after they have the child's agreement, they later contact parents. TeenScreen Project Coordinator, Kathleen Cigich, was quoted as saying: "We found early on, though, that sending out letters directly to parents is prohibitively time consuming and gets a low response rate. We thought, why not go to students themselves and offer a $5 video store coupon to anyone who brings back a parental consent form within a two-day turnaround period. It works. Our response rate is extremely high." Passive Consent: No Parents Need Respond TeenScreen also utilizes a "passive consent form"  which requires no written parental approval.  The passive consent form is sent home to parents and if they DON'T return it TeenScreen considers that the parents approve. TeenScreen officials favor passive consent because they say it boost their chances of screening kids to 95% as opposed to the written parental consent technique. What if the child forgets to bring the consent form home? What happens if the parent is too busy to refuse in writing? They've consented in the eyes of TeenScreen personnel. IMPLANTING IDEAS Next, the child is given a paper and pencil test over about 10 minutes with highly suggestive and meaningless questions like: Has there been a time when nothing was fun for you and you just weren't interested in anything? Has there been a time when you felt you couldn't do anything well or that you weren't as good-looking or as smart as other people? How often did your parents get annoyed or upset with you because of the way you were feeling or acting? Have you often felt very nervous when you've had to do things in front of people? Have you often worried a lot before you were going to play a sport or game or do some other activity? Have you tried to kill yourself in the last year? Are you still thinking of killing yourself? Have you thought seriously about killing yourself? Have you often thought about killing yourself?? Have you ever tried to kill yourself? Normal children answering honestly will endorse at least one of the first 5 questions.  That is enough to get them "diagnosed" with one supposed mental health disorder or another. Check, Check, Check, Have We Got a Diagnosis for You! The child then sees a mental health adviser and a check list is administered to confirm the "diagnosis" and earn the child a referral. When Parental Judgement Becomes Medical Neglect Many states in the US have given themselves the authority to compel parents to medicate their children even if they do not believe the child should be taking meds OR RISK LOSS OF PARENTAL CUSTODY. The child will be either medicated by the parents (often under Court order) or taken away from the family and placed in foster care.  Children in foster care are, sadly, all too frequently abusively medicated, sexually and physically molested/abused and emotionally damaged, sometimes to horrifying degrees.  I know.  I was the Child Psychiatrist for the Westchester County Department dealing with children in foster care for about a decade and am well aware of the abysmal conditions children in other states experience as well. In some states, the drugging craze has gone so far that school personnel are permitted to refuse to allow children into school if they are not medicated with potent, and dangerous, psychiatric drugs. Good Bills to Protect Kids from Bad Public Policy Two bills now before Congress will prevent this kind of abuse and prevent the use of Federal funds for mental health screening such as Teen Screen.  S. 891, the "Child Medication Safety Act" was introduced into the Senate by Senators Inhoff and Coburn on March 15, 2007.  Here is the heart of the Act with the main phrases underlined: SEC. 2. REQUIRED POLICIES AND PROCEDURES. (a) In General- As a condition of receiving funds under any program or activity administered by the Secretary of Education, not later than 1 year after the date of enactment of this Act, each State shall develop and implement policies and procedures prohibiting school personnel from requiring a child to obtain a prescription for substances covered by section 202(c) of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 812(c)) or a psychotropic drug as a condition of attending school or receiving services. (b) Rule of Construction- Nothing in subsection (a) shall be construed to create a Federal prohibition against teachers and other school personnel consulting or sharing classroom-based observations with parents or guardians regarding a student's academic performance or behavior in the classroom or school, or regarding the need for evaluation for special education or related services under section 612(a)(3) of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (20 U.S.C. 1412(a)(3)). (c) Prohibition of Payment of Funds- No Federal education funds may be paid to any local educational agency or other instrument of government that uses the refusal of a parent or legal guardian to provide a substance covered by section 202(c) of the Controlled Substances Act (21 U.S.C. 812(c)) or a psychotropic drug for such individual's child of a charge of child abuse, child neglect, education neglect, or medical neglect until the agency or instrument demonstrates that it is no longer using such refusal as a basis of a child abuse, child neglect, education neglect, or medical neglect charge. • Generated more than 240,000 emails to Congress in support of Ron Paul's vitaly important Health Freedom Protection Act, HR 2117, (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/healthfreedomusa/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=11754) to stop the FDA from prohibiting the dissemination of science-based information about the health benefits of food and food components like dietary supplements.
• Sent each of the 16 Presidential Candidates a total of 79,452 faxes asking 19 tough Health Freedom questions on our Health Freedom Score Card (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/healthfreedomusa/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=13881) to let them know that our issue MUST become a central one in this Presidential campaign.  (To date, only Ron Paul has taken a Health Freedom stand with a Health Freedom plank in his campaign.  We need many more faxes to drive the point home: "If you want our donations and our votes, tell us where you stand on our Health Freedom!"
• Delivered 333,000+ emails to the Texas State Legislators and the head of the Texas Medical Board supporting medical freedom for patients and doctors to practice drug free medicine when they threatened the license of Dr. Bill Rea (Dallas).

  Items in the news tell us where Health Freedom is threatened and championed:

  US Freedoms "HARMonized" To Restrictive EU Regulations:
  EU's Health Freedom Directive, Herbal and Medicinal Products Directive, Functional Foods Directive and a host of other European regulatory systems called "Directives" are rapidly and efficiently removing health choices for high potency nutrients, herbs, nutriceuticals and other natural health choices in Europe.  In fact, President Bush recently signed an order to "HARMonize" the EU's regulatory system and the United States' in 40 areas, including food (remember, supplements are food under US law).  As attorney Ralph Fucetola says, "the US is 'HARMonizing' our freedoms to Europe's restrictions", much to the glee of the multinational interests, including Big Pharma.

  Item: An unnamed source* says: "One American official says flatly that   the EU is 'winning' the regulatory race, adding: 'And there is a sense that that is their precise intent.' He cites a speech by the trade commissioner, Peter Mandelson, claiming that the export of 'our rules and standards around the world' was one source of European power. Noting that EU regulations are often written with the help of European incumbents, the official also claims that precaution can cloak 'plain old-fashioned protectionism in disguise'".

  Item: UK's NGO (Non Governmental Organization) "Consumers for Health Choice" (CHC) chairman Mike Peet said at a parliamentary reception last week that the EU regulatory approach is "indicative of all the worst aspects of the European Union - an indifferent, aloof and unresponsive institution, unaccountable to and unheeding of the freedoms of individual citizens, determined to foist a one-size-fits-all approach on diverse national traditions."

  Sounds like Natural Solutions Foundation's criticisms of Codex Alimentarius, doesn't it!

  Food Safety and Quality Under Attack
  
  Multinational interests recognize the rapidly growing demand for organic food which consumers expect to be free of pesticides and other dangerous chemicals, genetically modified (GM) components, and, in the case of organic animals, they want them to be raised in accordance with organic requriements: no GM feed, no antibiotics, hormones or veterinary drugs and given ample access to pasture and natural environments in which to graze, peck and grow.
  
  Organic standards are controlled by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) based on US law.  Theoretically, they uphold organic standards.  Theoretically.  As with other regulatory agencies, however, the interests and wishes of industry often holds more sway than good sense, the law or what consumers want and expect.  When the government does the wrong thing, sometimes consumers take matters into their own hands.
  
        Item: Organic Consumers Sue Aurora Dairy in 27 States for Violating Organic Standards. Acting on behalf of organic food consumers in 27 states, class action lawsuits are being filed this week in St. Louis and Denver against one of the nation's largest organic dairies.  The suits charge Aurora Diary Corporation, based in Boulder, Colorado, with allegations of consumer fraud, negligence, and unjust enrichment concerning the sale of organic milk by the company.  This past April, Aurora officials received a notice from the USDA detailing multiple and "willful" violations of federal organic law that were found by the federal investigators, specifically not providing mandatory pasture access and bringing non-organic cows onto their massive feedlots.  Unfortunately the USDA gave Aurora what the Organic Consumers Association considers a "slap on the wrist" rather than taking away the corporation's USDA Organic certification.**
  
         Item: EPA Approves Pesticide Known to Cause Cancer and Miscarriages.  On October 5, the EPA approved a new chemical fumigant for use on strawberries and other food crops across the US.  The pesticide, methyl iodide, vaporizes quickly, causing it to drift long distances.  Although the state of California has categorized methyl iodide as a cancer causing agent and the EPA admits it causes thyroid tumors, the Bush Administration has been advocating the fumigant for the better part of two years.
  
  In a letter to Stephen Johnson the nations leading chemists asked EPA not to approve methyl iodide without further scientific review.  The chemical has been used to induce cancer in laboratory experiments and causes neurological and thyroid problems, as well as miscarriages in studies with laboratory animals. Farmworkers, families, rural workers and the food supply will  now be subjected to exposure to the carcinogen unless the EPA revokes the approval immediately. **
  
  **Organic Consumers Association
   A search of the official Codex Alimentarius website reveals that even Codex, which is exceptionally friendly to highly toxic pesticides and  has published no standards for this deadly carcinogen!
  
       

  Human Chipping
  Starting with the National Animal Identification System (NAIS), mandatory federal regulations for the implantation of tracking chips into every farm animal were promulgated over the last several years.  Pet owners, too, were urged to chip their animals.  Since these chips emit continuous microwave radiation 24 hours a day it is not surprising that they have recently been shown to be associated with the development of cancer in chipped animals.
  
        Item: Last week two new types of chips, already implanted in millions of pets, for animals were approved by the NAIS program for use in farm animals. With increasing intensity, these same cancer-causing chips are being implanted in humans either as a "service" by insurance companies to allow quick medical record access in seriously ill patients, a security-enhancing bio-identification requirement for employment or a "safety measure" to find lost or stolen children.
  
  Despite the fact that studies going back to the 1980's had already shown the chips to be associated with tumor development, this information was not made public when the chips were approved for human use and were in fact, cited as the cause of the cancers by Keith Johnson, a retired toxicologic pathologist who led a study at Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan.
  
        Item: The FDA approved the chips for human use when Tommy Thompson was head of its parent organization, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).  Shortly thereafter, Thompson resigned his position with HHS to  become the CEO of Verichip, the company that makes the chips.  To date, neither Thompson nor any member of his family has been chipped.
  
        Unconfirmed Item: Information, so far unconfirmed, that the Natural Solutions Foundation has received says that mandatory chipping of humans is slated for implementation starting in May, 2008 and that this requirement was inserted into a recent Iraq War Appropriations Bill.  If you have accurate information about this information, either confirming or refuting it, please contact the Natural Solutions Foundation.
  
  Medical Privacy
  
  The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) was passed by Congress in 1996 to set a national standard for electronic transfers of health data.  Although it appears to protect your health information from prying eyes, the failures in this Act and subsequent legislation, including the Patriot Act, Patriot Act II and a host of other legislation, makes any medical or related personal information transmitted or stored electronically vulnerable to secret scrutiny.  In fact, under these "Homeland Security" measures (including directives and regulations as well as the laws themselves), if you are informed that your records have been searched or accessed by anyone in your physician's office, the person who told you about the access can actually go to jail!
  
  The Natural Solutions Foundation believes that medical records are an extension of the sacred trust of confidentiality and privacy between you and your physician and works closely with various privacy interest groups to educate and pressure Congress to reverse the significant damage done to that trust and to your rights by passing corrective legislation and blocking further intrusions.  At the moment, your best bet for keeping your information safe from access by government, commercial, insurance and other groups is to consult only health care providers who do not keep electronic records and who do not transmit either records, medical information or billing information over electronic systems.
  
  Since Medicare, Medicaid and third party insurers demand electronic transmission of information and bills, only health care providers who are outside the system and do not accept insurance are able to keep your records and information safe.  If you pay your physician yourself and then YOU, not the doctor, submit your statements to the insurance company, you have a much better chance of securing some measure of medical privacy.  Better yet is to deal with doctors you pay out of pocket and NOT submit to insurance companies.  How far you are willing to go to assure your medical privacy is a matter of personal choice, but you need to know that it is threatened if an insurance company or other third party is involved and support legislation to make medical privacy private once again.
  
  Genetically Modified Foods
  
  Genetically Modified (GM) foods and products made from them MAY NOT be labeled as such in the United States.  The FDA forbids such labeling because, as Dr. Barbara Schneeman (who works for the FDA as the head of the Office of Dietary Supplements) "explained" during a Codex Working Group on Labeling of Genetically Modified Foods and Food Products (Oslo, 2007):
  1. Research by both the FDA and others shows that consumers would reject GM foods if they knew that they were genetically modified.
• 2. The FDA, which does not require any safety testing or review of a GM food before it approves its use in the food supply, holds [administratively, not scientifically] that GM foods are equivalent to natural foods.
  3. Since consumers would be making an error based on their MISTAKEN [according to the FDA] belief that GM foods are undesirable if they rejected them, the FDA withholds the information about which foods are GM and which are not.
  4. According to the FDA, therefore, telling consumers the truth about GM foods would be false and misleading!
  
  You should note that when the Natural Solutions Foundation shared this information with the world outside of the meeting room in an email blast and a press release, Dr. Schneeman said that we had "misquoted" her.  I told her that the above is precisely what my verbatim notes recorded but, if she will share with me what she believes that she said at that meeting, I would be happy to share it with my readers.  To date Dr. Schneeman has not provided any information to conflict with the above report.
  
         Item: A USDA internal audit (December 2005) made it clear that it has no idea where pharmaceutically altered GM crops are being planted, nor whether there are any precautions against their entering the food chain.  (In fact, custody of these modified foods is so lax that a group of genetically modified pigs was actually sold "by mistake" into the food chain by a university in Florida not long ago.) These dangerous crops and animals are altered to produce vaccines and drugs in their edible parts.  They become part of the food chain without any scientific evidence that they are safe required by the US government. An escape of Bayer GM pharma rice in Louisiana contaminated the entire region's rice crop and WAS NOT REVEALED BY EITHER BAYER OR THE US GOVERNMENT FOR MORE THAN 5 YEARS after it was discovered.
  
         Item: At a Codex meeting, the Natural Solutions Foundation learned from a former Minister for Financial Development of Ghana that the contaminated Bayer pharmaceutical rice was first sold to the US Military in Iraq.  When they rejected it, it was sold to rice markets in Africa through jobbers in Dubai.  EVERY lot of rice tested in EVERY market in Ghana was contaminated with this dangerous crop.  The people buying their rice at the market stalls had no more chance to chose GM free rice than we do in our supermarkets.
  
         Item: A GM corn variety which produces the pesticide BT has been identified the source of major disruption in the aquatic systems near the GM crops.  Since the BT kills not only the corn borer (which destroys ears of corn before they can be harvested), but also other insects including the caddisfly, a major food source for fish and amphibians, the disruption of these ecologically vital water systems is very troubling for ecological stability and sustainability.
  
  Although the BT corn in question was approved a decade ago by the EPA, that approval came without any testing of its impact on the caddisfly, known to be present and important in the areas where the corn grows.
  
         Item: at the same time that the European Union has rejected applications for a genetically modified potato and three varieties of genetically modified corn, the US has announced plans to approve (or "deregulate") its 71st GM crop, this time another type of GM soybean.
  
                               Health Freedom Threats and Champions            

  We are very pleased, as an educational  non governmental organization (NGO), that at least one presidential candidate, Ron Paul, has a positive position on health freedom. Our Health Freedom Score Card, http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/healthfreedomusa/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=13881, will, over the next few weeks, 'smoke out' any other pro-freedom sentiments, if any, among the other candidates!
  And Dr. Paul's offices have come to us for advice: his campaign asked us to
  help write his Health Freedom Plank, which we did, and his legislative office just asked us to suggested stronger language for HR 2117.. that bill is about to be amended and it will be even more important for us to rally behind it!
  You remember the FDA theats: the draft anti-CAM guidance; the highly restrictive draft "health claims" guidance; the final "destroy small companies" good manufacturing practices etc.
  Ride That Freedom Mouse!
  By using your computer mouse, you have generated a more than two hundred thousand messages to Congress supporting Dr. Paul's bill and seeking additional sponsors. When it is amended in the next few weeks, we will need to redouble our efforts and turn on the tremendous grass roots resources you've created to push Congress to do the right thing. Your responses to the aforementioned FDA attacks over the past nine months has been nothing short of awesome!
  You literally forced Congress to add special protective language to the recent FDA authorization bill, exempting and protecting our supplements from the truly terrible FDA Revitalization Act. You stopped the FDA anti-Cam guidance (I don't think it will ever be finalized because of your response!). Now you can make Congress pass the Health Freedom Protection Act!
• An Amazing Nine Months
• Your efforts in the past nine months have grown Natural Solutions Foundation by a factor of twelve to well over two hundred thousand people! Now we need to increase our elist, which grows by many people each day, to millions of health freedom activists.
  
  Freedom Warriors
  
  We need at least One Million Health Freedom Mouse Warriors on our list ready to ride the Freedom Mouse. We've spoken to several of the campaigns (Senators Obama and Gravel - we apparently overloaded their fax machine… for which we are truly sorry, NOT!).   They said we should PLEASE stop faxing and we said that we would do so if: They provide us with an email address so that we don't have to keep faxing and They answer our specific health freedom questions and let us know where they stand on these vital questions which affect your life and mine (like "Should children be taken away from their families for compulsory drugging under any circumstances" and "Should we support FDA and other government agencies in their Harmonizing with Codex standards and guidelines?")  Senator Mike Gravel's campaign manager gave us an email address and promised us that we would receive Senator Gravel's answers in the next couple of weeks. Senator Obama's campaign pleaded with us to stop faxing and gave us an email address to use instead. (We are faxing your requests for answers to our Score Card questions to all the rest of the candidates, by the way.) We told both Senator Gavel's and Obamas's campaigns that the quickest way to halt the tsunami of communications would be to answer our questions and tell us what their candidate's Health Freedom Plank in their presidential campaign is.    So far only one candidate, Dr. Ron Paul, has adopted a Health Freedom Plank that meets most of our concerns. This bill was signed into law stating that supplements were specifically exempted from it. That's an indication of our collective power.   …The effort to further restrict compounding pharmacies, including their right to compound your bioidentical hormones, has once again failed, due to a substantial outcry from the public. Compounding pharmacies, of course, directly compete with mass market drug companies by making private formulations up for patients of the drugs and hormones they need according to the prescriptions their doctors write for them. FDA has been attacking them for years. We beat them back again.    …FDA finally issued the expected guidance on the new Adverse Event Reporting law that goes into effect in December. We have concerns about the new AER system, not because there is any significant danger to the public from nutrients, but because we are concerned the new system will ignore one of the prime causes of the few adverse events people report: drug - nutrient interactions. Since drugs change normal body function, they will often interfere with the metabolism of nutrients. When that happens, it is the drug that caused the event, not the food! But we are wary that the new reporting system can be used to blame nutrients and natural remedies when toxic substances in the environment, or toxic drugs taken by the individual, will be ignored as the caused of the harm. But there is good news, too, and I can't keep from sharing it! Can You Handle Some Really Good News? You Earned Us a Victory! A little background: Remember back last May 9 when S. 1082, The FDA Revitalization Bill (Kennedy/Enzio), was passed by the Senate with just one dissenting vote (Senator Bernie Sanders, I-VT) and then its sister legislation, HR 2900, was passed by the House this past July with essentially no time for discussion and no amendments allowed? And remember how hard we, the Health Freedom community, fought to make sure that a "hold harmless provision" was included to protect products covered by DSHEA (e.g., dietary supplements, herbs and other food products)? Senators Hatch and Harkin introduced a provision in an amendment to an amendment (!) by Senator Durbin in the Senate version of the bill to protect supplements and it passed. There was no such amendment protecting our supplements in the House version of the bill. So our next task was to make sure that the bill emerged from the Compromise Committee (resolving any differences between the Senate and the House versions of the bill) with the protective amendment in tact. Well, the bill emerged from Committee, was approved and signed into law WITH OUR AMENDMENT INTACT! We have a hold-harmless clause in what is otherwise a very bad bill, indeed, which specifically states that this bill does not apply in any way to products covered by DSHEA. D our collective power! You know that the folks behind these bills and related regulations want to kill natural health and, to do that, they would need to take away our natural health products and services. And they do keep coming back and back and back. But we have beaten them back time after time and, in fact, each time, we emerge stronger and better organized, clearer and more experienced in how to win! You can be sure that we will have to go through this process again, and again and again. That's the price of liberty: eternal vigilance. Health freedom is really no different. We have to keep at it and get our Friends Patients Colleagues Relatives Customers Suppliers Parents Children Shop keepers Naturopaths Nutritionists Hairdressers Acupuncturists Everyone involved. So congratulations! You and I beat the Illness-Care Industry back one more time! If you haven't sent yours to the Presidential Candidates, now would be the right time. And "Should the FDA be allowed to violate US law to bring about 'HARMonization' with the Codex standards and guidelines it forces through that body for the benefit of multinational corporations"? If the candidates failed to notice that these questions will define their presidencies, to say nothing of your freedom, it's time to remind them that they owe us their answers NOW! They are looking for your support. Let them know that they have to earn it by declaring their positions on Health Freedom issues. Right now, according to the report of the General Accounting Office, you have no privacy rights where your health records are concerned - none - because, among other reasons, the Department of Health and Human Services has built NO privacy systems into electronic medical record systems. None. To make matters worse, the Department of Homeland Security can access your medical records at any time WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE and if your doctor's staff lets you know that your records are being accessed, your doctor can actually go to jail! Of course, if your doctor is not a part of a HIPPA compliant practice and does not use any electronic means to transmit patient records, then your records are safe, sort of. The Natural Solutions Foundation believes this is absolutely wrong and is, in fact, more medical fascism, e.g., the State owns your body and can compel you to be drugged against your will and it owns your medical records so it can invade them at will without your knowledge or permission. Microsoft agrees with us. They think it's wrong, too. And they have decided to do something about it. This morning they launched "Health Vault", a patient-controlled, patient driven medical record system which allows patients, and patients ONLY, to control who gets to look at their records and who does not. Initially, Cori Brackett agreed to make the film but found it too much for her right now. We look forward to working with Cori on another project, but this one turned out to be overwhelming for her right now. "Murder" is a project which is right up their alley and, as it happened, they were able to take this project on. We are thrilled. And, in fact, they will be joining us in Panama and Washington DC to shoot footage to tell the story clearly in the coming DVD. OK. Now For the Ugly Item: The 2004 "New Freedoms Initiative" (which was passed into law in 2004) says that all children from 0 to 18 must be screened for "Mental Illness". Item: Children found to have "Mental Illness" are to be drugged with strong, dangerous and largely untested (at least for long term use in children) psychoactive medications - whether their parents want them to be or not. Item: Parents who do not want their children to be drugged run the very serious risk of loosing them to State custody. Item: Children in State custody may be used as experimental subjects in the absence of informed consent, just as prisoners may be. Item: When the State has taken custody of children because their parents did not want them drugged and allows them to be used as experimental subjects, it is paid by the drug company conducting the experiment(s) for the right to experiment on these children. Item: Newborns and young infants are "screened" for "Mental Illness by having their mothers (or expectant mothers) screened. Item: Pregnant women given psychoactive drugs after the 20th week of pregnancy are 6 times as likely to give birth to a baby with a life threatening birth defect, pulmonary hypertension. Item: Compulsory drugging of pregnant mothers has horrifying and potentially lethal consequences for the mother AND the baby. Item: The police power of the State can be used to compel pregnant mothers to take psychoactive drugs to protect the "Mental Health" of her baby. Item: Mainstream commentary about Orwellian "New Freedoms Initiative" (passed and signed without an audible murmur) and the loss of Constitutional rights it institutionalizes has been nil. Ron Paul's corrective bill, HR 2387, The Parental Consent Act of 2007, would make it illegal to use Federal Funds for such screening and to give Federal education funds to any entity which uses parental refusal of such screening as the cause for charges of child abuse, medical neglect or similar charges. Health Freedom Is Not Just An Abstract Concept Think about it for a moment: The largest and most profitable industry in the world, the illness-care business, which includes Big Pharma, is making decisions to increase corporate profit and to control by undermining your health and your freedom to decide how to take care of your health, but there's not a peep in the mainstream. Could it be because they own the mainstream media? Hmmmmn It's one of the best kept secrets in the world, a kind of 'anti-health Manhattan Project' impacting everyone in the world but hidden in plane sight (For those of you who are too young to remember, during the Second World War, the Manhattan Project, America's highly secret crash development of the atomic bomb, important parts of which were carried out beneath the bleachers of the University of Chicago's Stagg Field !) Health Fascism, Hand in Hand with Food-Borne Killers This hidden threat means that America, a country that, despite the irrefutable evidence, still irrationally prides itself on having the best food supply in the word AND the best health care system, is dying from an epidemic of food born disease! Not E. coli, Salmonella, not Shigella, but corporate-friendly, rather than health-friendly regulation, political corruption and scientific deception, with a heaping dollop of media control, have allowed our health and health freedoms to be so degraded that the major killers in the US, aside, of course, from properly used drugs (and the rest of the "developed" world) are the diseases of under nutrition: cancers, cardiovascular disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity. These 5 food -borne killers "just happen" to be the major profit centers of Big Pharma and the rest of the illness care industry. When candidates start talking about Health Freedom, it has no option but to go main stream. Wait until the American public hears from their candidates what the real cause of their needless suffering and preventable death is. What happens when they really understand that "the Alternative Medicine" is bankrupting society, killing them and killing their kids. What happens when they realize that "Alternative Medicine" doesn't mean is not herbs and supplements but but the poor alternative to good care misnamed "conventional" medicine. It is more appropriately called "familiar" medicine. Familiar Medicine is the Poor Alternative to Health and Health Freedom Compared to Natural Medicine It's an alternative people chose when they look for health in: The prescriptions their so called "conventional" or allopathic doctor gives them for just about everything, including the damage done by the last prescription, The drug store's over-the-counter drug section The toxic "food" in their supermarkets permitted by corrupted government regulatory agencies What Will They Do? When they understood that conventional medicine's dangerous drugs and procedures have broken the bank and are bankrupting the country without producing any real benefits and that people have, within their grasp safe, inexpensive and effective alternatives to the poor alternative provided by conventional/allopathic medicine, what will the American people do? When they understand that the bought and paid for politicians, corrupt regulators, the illness care industry (including Big Pharma) and the corporations that pollute and degrade our food and environment have knowingly, over decades, suppressed the knowledge that could have kept their loved ones alive and well in favor of vast corporate profits, what will the American people do? Until the public debate on these issues goes mainstream, the quite campaign to kill natural medicine and take over your health choices leaving nothing but illness-care ones in favor of degraded food (Codex) and the triumph of allopathic (drug) medicine will march forward. We Are Not About to Let That Happen! The Health Freedom Scoreboard campaign (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/healthfreedomusa/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=13881) is the first step in making Health Freedom into a public, mainstream discussion. When the Candidates declare their Health Freedom positions, we've got main stream. If they don't, we've got a huge issue to publicize. By the way, as you read this email, you will note that the link to the Health Freedom Scorecard (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/healthfreedomusa/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=13881) appears many time. Since the link was corrupted in previous emails, I am repeating it often. That way if one link does not work, you can use another. That's how important this effort is! Is It Really That Important? If we fail to exert our collective impact to bring our issue, Health Freedom, into the mainstream, the continuing assault on our health and our freedom to make our own health choices will go on and on and on until we have no natural choices left, our food is totally contaminated by irradiation, genetic modification, biologically intolerable pesticide and veterinary drug residues including dangerous synthetic hormones and our supplements, herbs, homeopathic and other natural treatments have been taken away from us on one pretext or another. While that is underway, the people who know how to treat us naturally will have been terrorized and criminalized and telling us what the health benefits of foods (including supplements and herbs) will have been criminalized as well. Just consider what is happening to good doctors like Bill Rea as the State of Texas tries to shut him down because of complaints not from happy patients, but from insurance companies who are share corporate beds with Big Pharma. Remember to click on the Action Step link to support him and doctors like him. If you think that is too extreme, think again and look at Europe where supplements are being pulled from the market if their dose is high enough to do a body good (Thanks to the Codex-HARMonzied European Food Supplements Directive, European Medicinal Plants Directive, European Sports Drink Directive, etc.) And then look at the US where the Michigan Cherry Growers Association was ordered to remove six scientific articles showing that cherry juice is good for arthritis under threat that, if they did not, the FDA would ban the sale of cherries in the US as an untested drug! The FDA was definitely not 'funning around', either. They are not 'funning around' when they invade doctors' offices and manufacturer's facilities with dogs and guns and axes and clubs. Or when they burn books (even today!) or demand that research results be destroyed! Don't you want to know where the people who want your money for their campaigns to become your next President stand on these issues? I sure do! First Responders The initial wave of "First Responders" have sent 59,696 faxes to the candidate's campaign headquarters. We need every person on this list which is bumping a quarter of a million people, and all of your friends, to do the same in order to get what we want: to take the conversation mainstream. You see, the reason that this issue has never been a mainstream one is precisely the same as the reason that the FDA prevents the labeling of genetically modified foods. A conscious willingness to hide inconvenient information, even if it means you get sick and die. You remember that Dr. Barbara Schneeman, Director of the FDA's Office of Dietary Supplements, serving as the US Delegate at the meeting (with a representative of Monsanto and the Biotech industry on the delegation, too) told a Codex Working Group on the Labeling of Genetically Modified (GM) Foods (Oslo, 2007) the following: The FDA knows people would reject GM foods if they knew that they were, in fact, GM. To prevent consumers from making the "mistake" by rejecting GM food, the FDA believes that it has a responsibility to withhold the truth from consumers. Giving consumers accurate information about the food they were eating would be "false and misleading! Exactly the same reasoning by Big Pharma and the rest of the illness-care industry keeps the health freedom issues well hidden: Looking up from the corporate bottom line, giving the people real information about how to get well and stay that way must seem "false and misleading" since if they knew that there were better, safer ways to get and stay well, they would use them. If they knew that the food they thought they could trust was deeply tainted, they might not buy it. Telling them would allow them to make the same error that consumers would make if they knew that 80% of their food is already admixed with GM foods. Solution: Buy Congress and the media to supress anything that might be "false and misleading' if you want to sell drugs and contaminated food. Oh, yes, make sure that the public does not have the debate it wants and needs about these strategies to enhance illness, profits and, we suspect, death. (That's the genocidal part of the Codex Agenda: see the Codex lecture, "Nutricide" at www.HealthFreedomUSA.org for more information on that issue). The illness care industry stands to loose everything if people really understand where illness comes from and how to prevent and cure it naturally. The insurance companies stand to loose everything if people understand that they can prevent and cure most illnesses - and all of the degenerative killers - naturally. Big Pharma buys Congress and the mainstream media for a reason: they want laws and communications that favor them and only them. They want the police power of the State (that means forced screening, forced drugging, taking kids away from parents who don't want them drugged, forced vaccination, etc.) used to assure their profits, nothing more, nothing less. That is not what we want. They want the competition (natural treatments) ruthlessly eliminated. That is not what we want. And they want all of this done in total media silence. That is not what we want. If the candidates want the support of our hundreds of thousands of active voices (and votes), then we need to know where they come down on the tough questions like: Should the government be able to take kids away from parents who do not want them medicated with dangerous drugs? Should it be able to compel screening and drug use in either adults or children? Should the FDA be allowed to "HARMonzing" with international standards like Codex Alimentarius (which was never authorized by Congress) even when it violates US law? Should the FDA be allowed to regulate and eliminate natural health strategies ("CAM", which they define as "Complementary and Alternative Medicine", rather than "Modalities") as untested (and therefore illegal) 'medial devices' and 'drugs'? Should the US be part of the North American Union, the World Trade Organization or the UN since all of these bodies are being used to destroy our health freedoms and US sovereignty? The Health Freedom Scorecard (http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/organizationsORG/healthfreedomusa/campaign.jsp?campaign_KEY=13881) asks 19 tough questions and we want them all answered before we give a penny of support or cast a single vote. Up until now, only one candidate has said a word about Health Freedom. While we thank and appreciate the strong support that Dr. Paul (R-TX) gives Health Freedom one voice among 16 is just not acceptable. Obama's Campaign Responds First, Sort Of Read what Senator Barak Obama's Campaign has to say with just the first wave of emails hitting their faxes: This is a real, unedited email I received last night. Dr. Laibow, We've recently received your Presidential Health Freedom Score Card. Thank you for your interest in the campaign and Senator Obama's position on health issues. I assure you we'll pass the message along to our policy team. In the meantime please stop faxing us copies of the scorecard. We want to respond to the policy clarification requests that healthfreedomusa.org is sending to us, but our whole correspondence system is based on e-mail. Please get in touch with Harry Kruglik, our correspondence chief, for the best method to get in touch with us. I'd hate to see this relationship facilitate the needless waste of more paper (literally, reams of paper printed on both sides) as we strive on this campaign to be environmentally conscious and conscientious. Here is my response to the Obama campaign email: Dear Robert, Thanks for your response. I am not faxing the Score Card to you. Our hundreds of thousands of supporters think Health Freedom is an important enough issue that they have taken it upon themselves to fax it to your office because they are eagerly awaiting Senator Obama's position on these issues. They believe, as I do, that Health Freedom is such an important issue that it must be a central part of the national debate and are eager to let Senator Obama's campaign know that. We can change from a fax to an email correspondence if you like (and I do appreciate your concern with paper and ink - I share it very strongly!). The reason that you are getting faxes, in fact, is that when our research team went to your campaign site contact page, http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/contact , there was no email given. If the way to reach Harry Kruglik is listed on the site and I missed it, I apologize but, as far as I could see, neither your kind letter nor the contact page offers me that information. If you or Mr. Kruglik will send me a working email address which will allow our supporters to send emails instead of faxes so that the Obama campaign can see how important this issue is to our huge and vociferous base, I will be happy to switch the correspondence from fax (wasteful) to email (not wasteful). Obama, along with 15 out of the 16 Presidential hopefuls, did not think our issue, Health Freedom, was important enough to have a policy on or a plank for his campaign about before he tossed his hat into the Presidential arena. Wrong It's a critically important issue. We CAN make it important to every member of the Presidential playing field and, by doing that, take the discussion mainstream IF we seize the moment take action NOW. The Bad Like many problems, this one is not all bad and actually has a good side to it. The good side is that we've sent off 39,626 faxes to Presidential campaigns. About 1% of our supporters have taken the necessary moment to send these faxes (and where we have them, emails). The bad side is that the donations to pay for this expensive way of communicating have not kept pace with the cost. Despite that, we have asked the Presidential Hopefuls our tough questions 5643 times in the past few hours. Asking the hard questions of all of the Presidential Hopefuls would appear to NOT be on someone's agenda , but it certainly is on ours! Let's take Health Freedom to the candidates and separate Health Freedom friend from Health Freedom Foe.  Ron Paul, for example, at the GOP Debate last Thursday included his Health Freedom plank, calling for "freedom from FDA interference in health choices."  We need more voices like that or to find out that there are none and make our choices on that basis.  Your pressure on the candidates is a critical factor in defining the issue.
